Crypto Operations Lead

Institute of Free Technology is a mission-driven tech startup studio that takes ideas from the drawing board to market with financial, technical, legal, people operations, and brand-building support. Its startups focus on building public goods to safeguard civil liberties in the digital age.

Responsibilities:

• Own day-to-day operation, integrity and security of the group’s on-chain treasury across multiple legal entities using a multi-Safe + Zodiac wallet architecture.
• Build and run the operational response stack: monitoring, alerting, runbooks, drills, on-call escalation, and post-mortems.
• Define and own incident response, escalation paths and true incident accountability (including out-of-hours duty).
• Manage liquidity operations within a risk mandate: execute positioning across wallets/chains and engage counterparties for hedging and on/off-ramping.
• Own crypto and fiat payment execution and structured, auditable wallet-signing workflows.
• Maintain crypto treasury reporting, position reconciliation, dashboard data quality and the on-chain transaction record for Finance and stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Crypto-native operator with hands-on experience running an institutional-grade crypto treasury under self-custody (DeFi ops, CeFi treasury, or security engineering).
• Fluent with Gnosis Safe and Zodiac modules (Roles Modifier, Delay Modifier, Guards) and permission scoping, allowlists, calldata verification.
• Strong self-custody bias and crypto OpSec mindset; able to anticipate and mitigate key-compromise and exploit risks.
• Comfortable operating across multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction structures and designing processes consistent with corporate constraints.
• Hands-on builder who writes runbooks, defines alert taxonomies, runs drills, executes signings and owns the frameworks they live in.
• Engineering rigor and automation bias: documented, testable recovery paths and deployable tooling so others can operate systems without you.

Nice to have:

• Track record executing liquidity moves and hedges at scale across DeFi venues (DEXs, AMMs, lending) and centralized counterparties (MMs, exchanges, OTC).
• Familiarity with monitoring/response tooling (Tenderly, Defender, Hypernative, Forta, Hexagate, Den, PagerDuty or equivalents).
• Experience designing and operating structured, auditable workflows in fast-moving environments and bringing teams along.
