SMX is seeking a Cloud Engineer/Administrator to support our customer onsite at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in southern Maryland.

The Cloud Engineer/Administrator will be responsible for daily operations including the following:

• On-Premise Cloud Management: Design, deploy, and maintain our on-premise cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and reliability.
• Hybrid Cloud Integration: Integrate on-premise systems with public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Performance and Security: Monitor and optimize the performance, security, and cost of the on-premise cloud environment.  This includes managing access controls and protecting data against threats.
• Automation: Automate cloud operations, including provisioning, configuration, and deployment of resources.
• Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to support application deployment and ensure smooth and reliable cloud solutions that align with business needs.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex issues within the on-premise and hybrid cloud environments to minimize downtime.

Required Skills & Experience

• Clearance Required: Top Secret

+ Interim TS required to start

• Security+ or another comparable certification for compliance with DoD 8140
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

+ In lieu of degree, high-level Cloud Certs (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Associate Cloud Engineer) may be considered

• 2+ years years of proven experience in cloud services, with a strong background in building and designing web services in the cloud
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware, and experience with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
• A solid understanding of networking, including virtual networks and general network management functions
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, YML or BASH is beneficial for automating tasks and managing cloud infrastructure
• Experience with IaC tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate the setup and management of cloud resources

Desired Skills & Experience

• A strong understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices and experience implementing security controls.
• Experience with on-premise cloud platforms like VMware Cloud Foundation or OpenStack.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with various teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with ServiceNow implementation and management.

The proposed salary for this position is:

$87,700—$146,100 USD
