We operate one of the most demanding data infrastructures in finance, with distributed systems spanning multiple database backends, streaming platforms, thousands of tables, and near-100% availability requirements. Our environment is primarily on-prem, with a strong focus on standardization, automation, and Kubernetes-based orchestration where it adds real value.

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our Database Platforms team and play a key role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our production systems.

Your future role within QRT:

This role is central to the stability and evolution of QRT’s data platforms. Your responsibilities will include:

• Own the reliability, availability, and performance of production database systems
• Design and operate high-availability architectures (replication, backups, disaster recovery, failover)
• Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, and database lifecycle management
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across the stack (query → database → OS → storage/network)
• Drive automation of provisioning, patching, migrations, and maintenance workflows
• Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code and Kubernetes adoption for stateful workloads
• Partner with engineering, data, and research teams to improve platform usability and resilience

Your present skillset:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar; familiarity with NoSQL systems is a plus)
• Strong experience with high-availability setups, replication (logical/physical), failover mechanisms, and disaster recovery strategies (PITR, backup automation, restore validation)
• Proven expertise in performance tuning and query optimization (execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, workload optimization, capacity planning)
• Deep understanding of Linux and infrastructure fundamentals (compute, storage I/O, networking, filesystem and kernel tuning)
• Experience with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or similar) and scripting (Bash/Python)
• Strong troubleshooting skills in distributed systems and complex production environments
• Solid knowledge of database security (access control, encryption in transit/at rest, secrets management, auditing)
• Ownership mindset and ability to operate effectively in a high-performance environment

Nice to have:

• Experience in high-throughput or low-latency environments
• Exposure to Kubernetes for stateful services
• Observability experience (metrics, logs, SLOs)
• Programming ability (Python, Go, Rust, or similar)
