IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking a database administrator to manage our Postgres and MySQL environments. This position will be responsible for maintaining the database infrastructure of our production, dev/test, and disaster recovery environments to ensure stability and performance requirements are met; managing backup and off-site replication; managing patching and upgrades; building out an AWS-based Postgres architecture.

This is a full-time position in our San Mateo, CA headquarters office. The work schedule for this role is Monday-Friday in the office with the option to work from home one day per week. #LI-EM1

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Administration of PostgreSQL and MySQL databases throughout the development and production lifecycles
• Develop and maintain processes for optimizing database security and standards
• Perform upgrades using proper lifecycle management and testing
• Manage backup and recovery functions for a PostgreSQL environment
• Monitors performance issues on all production and non-production databases (as applicable) implementing performance monitoring and trending on all production and applicable non-production databases
• Assist development groups in optimizing SQL statements in applications, batch jobs, and reports and in designing and using databases and database applications and processes for maximum performance, security, reliability, and availability.
• Cross-training in NoSQL database administration (Cassandra and MongoDB)
• Create automation for repeating database tasks
• 24x7 on-call rotation for critical system issues
• Coordinate with engineering teams to keep database software up-to-date

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• BS in Computer Science or IT related field
• 4+ years of IT experience
• 3+ years Relational Database Administrator (working with PostgreSQL 14+, MySQL 8)
• Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL / MSSQL) Architecture
• Working knowledge of Cloud Platforms RDS / CloudSQL (Postgres, MySQL, and Aurora)
• MongoDB Experience is a plus
• Scripting experience, Shell, Python are a plus
• 3+ years of experience in any other database administration is a plus
• Strong communication and interaction skills
• Eagerness to continue learning

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 to $180,000 + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
