About the Role

As a Backend Developer, you’ll be the engine behind our server-side logic, building and optimising the robust infrastructure that powers our digital experiences. Working with a diverse range of business applications, you will ensure high performance and seamless integration across the stack. We are looking for someone who is passionate about seeking new opportunities to create impactful work through scalable and efficient Java-based solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain high-performance server-side logic using Java to ensure application reliability.
• Collaborate with front-end developers, data analysts, and stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements.
• Design and implement standardized APIs and RESTful services.
• Manage database lifecycle, including setup, maintenance, and performance optimization.
• Identify and resolve complex bugs and performance bottlenecks.
• Write clean, scalable, and efficient code following Java best practices and modern patterns.
• Participate in code reviews and cross-functional collaboration with QA, DevOps, and Product teams.
• Document technical specifications and API processes to maintain a comprehensive development knowledge base.

About You

The essentials:

• Dutch citizenship and proficiency in the Dutch language.
• Educational background: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Java Mastery: Proven experience with core Java (OOP, concurrency, JVM internals) and modern features like Streams, Lambda expressions, and Optional.
• Framework Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, or Hibernate/JPA.
• Data & API Proficiency: Skilled in RESTful API design and database technologies (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL like MongoDB).
• Tools & Process: Experience with version control (Git), build tools (Maven/Gradle), and working within Agile/SDLC methodologies.
• Security & Quality: Solid understanding of security principles (OWASP, JWT, OAuth2) and testing frameworks like JUnit or Mockito.

Not a must, but a plus:

• Familiarity with Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservices architecture.
• Experience with Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Message Brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka) or performance profiling tools.
• Secondary proficiency in other languages (Python, C#, or TypeScript) or front-end technologies (ReactJS).
