A bit about the team:

The Modern Dining team is a unique team at Toast made up of engineers specialising in both full-stack and Android development. We are obsessed with rethinking the most painful and manual parts of the dining experience and transforming them into modern, delightful experiences for restaurant staff and their guests. Our focus is on building the restaurant of the future and helping Toast stand out as a thought leader in the restaurant space. As a highly visible, high-impact team, our work shapes how people experience dining and hospitality every day. A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Work across software both in the restaurant and the cloud
• Navigate diverse codebases across disciplines to consistently deliver high-quality code within established timelines.
• Work directly with pilot customers (sometimes in the restaurant!) to ensure successful delivery and operation; incorporating their feedback and iterating quickly
• Collaborate with UX and PM on the definition and design of features
• Collaborate with teams across Toast
• Demonstrate a high degree of ownership in all aspects of development.
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.
• Mentor and coach other engineers

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• High level of proficiency with Kotlin, Java or another object-oriented language, with a deep understanding of testing, quality & best practices.
• High level of proficiency in frontend development, especially ReactJS
• Working experience with Android systems
• The ability to take complex business problems, break them down and create easy-to-use solutions
• Working experience of API principles e.g. REST
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
• Adaptable to work in changing environments

Nice to haves;

• Proficient in Android development

+ - Understanding of Activities, Fragments, Services.

- Reactivity.

- Dependency Injection with Dagger

- Android XML layouts

- Coroutines
