Ledger is one of the core services for Coinbase, responsible for processing transactions and managing the funds of our users. Today, our scale and complexity of operations has far surpassed the original design of Ledger and fund management and ledgering systems. This is a unique opportunity to redesign foundational systems that will set Coinbase up for success in the next decade. We are looking for problem solvers who love complex problems in the intersection of crypto, finance and distributed systems.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

• Design and develop scalable ledgering systems that processes millions of transactions using modern technology and industry best practices
• Build, test, and release high quality product-facing features with integrity, scalability, maintainability and stability.
• Drive strategic technical direction for complex initiatives either individually or through a team
• Identify, anticipate and lead analysis and resolution of technical challenges
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders from finance and product teams to deliver high impact and high visibility features and projects
• Work with engineers, data analysts, product managers and senior leadership to turn our product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, influencing technical designs and code quality.
• Drive system improvements by embedding AI into operational practices

What we look for in you:

• 5+ years of software development experience with experience writing performant, large scale distributed systems
• Strong coding skills, preferably in Go, along with solid understanding of relational databases and transactions
• Strong problem solver with ability to debug and foresee problems.
• Experience in leading a team to deliver robust solutions
• Familiarity with writing highly concurrent systems and good intuition for REST API design
• Proven experience working on large projects with long-term impact on a single system or team
• Proven experience in identifying customer problems with a proactive mind-set
• Capable of driving alignments with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong technical grasp with excellent judgment on task prioritizations
• Ability to solve complex engineering problems that deliver results aligned with team objectives
• Ability to mentor junior developers and lead the team technically on new initiatives and system improvements

Nice to haves:

• You have experience with distributed systems and databases
• You have experience in financial services
• You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from startup to mid-size)
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks
• You have experience with Blockchain technology (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum etc)
• You’ve worked with Golang, Python, Docker, SQL, or Postgres
• You’ve built financial, high reliability or security systems
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services

Pay Transparency Notice:Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position can range as detailed below. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility and benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$186,065—$218,900 USD
