Position Summary

You’ll operate as a senior individual contributor and the de facto technical lead across our marketing web properties—owning architecture direction, enforcing coding standards, driving performance excellence, and accelerating high-quality feature delivery. You’ll mentor and oversee contractors, elevate engineering practices, and ensure our WordPress + modern JavaScript stack remains fast, maintainable, and experimentation-ready.

Founded in Israel in 2010, Tipalti is a global business headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area (Foster City) with offices in Tel Aviv, Plano, Toronto, Vancouver, London, Amsterdam, Tbilisi and Medellin.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Architecture Ownership: Evaluate, refactor, and evolve the WordPress/PHP and frontend JavaScript architecture to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance across all marketing web properties.
• Coding Standards & Governance: Establish and document front-end/back-end standards (PHP, JS, HTML, CSS, performance, security basics); drive adoption through PR reviews and mentoring.
• Performance Optimization: Partner with WebOps to enhance site performance.
• Feature Delivery: Plan and implement new site features, embedding best practices for performance, accessibility, and maintainability in every release.
• Code Review & Quality: Maintain timely PR reviews, strengthen automated testing across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels, and ensure regressions are detected early through robust review and test practices.
• Technical Leadership: Provide direction, unblock issues, and ensure consistent output quality.
• Tech Debt Management: Systematically reduce technical debt by refactoring outdated templates, consolidating redundant scripts, and eliminating non-standard plugin dependencies to enhance platform stability and scalability.
• Analytics & Experimentation Enablement: Design, implement, and maintain robust tracking infrastructure and data layer taxonomy to support accurate analytics, event tagging, and A/B testing.

About you

• 8+ years professional web development experience; 4+ years hands-on WordPress/PHP development at scale.
• Demonstrated lead-level influence (mentoring, establishing standards)
• Deep proficiency in PHP, modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3/SCSS, with a strong grasp of code architecture principles (Model-View-Controller). Skilled in asynchronous programming patterns and API integrations (REST/JSON).
• Proven record of improving page performance and Core Web Vitals on marketing or content-heavy sites.
• Testing mindset: comfortable with unit (PHPUnit), integration, and end-to-end (Playwright or similar) test strategies.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving cross-browser/front-end compatibility issues (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and responsive layout bugs across major mobile viewports.
• Experience conducting rigorous code reviews and enforcing coding standards.
• Ability to coordinate and technically lead contractors (provide clear tasks, feedback, quality gates).
• Ability to context switch between architectural work and hands-on feature implementation.
