BRICK currently has schools in two regions: Newark, New Jersey, and Buffalo, New York.
BRICK Gateway Academy Charter School is our Newark location. As a full K-12 continuum, we start our college-focused academic programming in kindergarten and yield better results for Newark students for generations to come. We are more than a school; we are a full ecosystem of supports from cradle to career. We provide our families with free wraparound services like prenatal care, career services, and housing support. Our high school alumni receive up to six years of post-graduate assistance. BRICK Gateway Academy attracts a diverse staff devoted to nurturing our students’ intellect and identities in order to prepare them to graduate from college and to chart their own course.

Overview
Role: The full-time speech-language pathologist serves students across BRICK Networks’ three Newark campuses. The speech-language pathologist provides targeted support to reduce or eliminate speech or language impairments that impact a student’s ability to fully access and benefit from the district’s educational program
Essential Functions
- Provides screenings to identify children who may need speech, hearing, and language services and/or interventions, in collaboration with the IEP team.
- Conducts appropriate assessments and diagnoses of communication impairments.
- Assists in determining student eligibility for speech and language services.
- Develops and delivers individualized therapy programs to meet each student’s needs and address identified speech and language impairments.
- Adheres to service schedules and makes adjustments as needed to ensure compliance.
- Assists and guides teachers in supporting students with speech and language needs in the classroom.
- Develops appropriate interventions for students.
- Serves as a consultant to the Director, teachers, and school staff on matters related to speech and language impairments.
- Assists with appropriate referrals to outside agencies as needed.
- Functions as a member of the Child Study Team and serves as case manager for students classified with Speech Language Impairment.
- Evaluates students referred for Child Study Team evaluations using current and appropriate assessment tools.
- Maintains thorough, ongoing records for students receiving services using school-based platforms, such as PowerSchool Special Programs.
- Ensures compliance with all special education documentation requirements, including files, meetings, reports, audits, and mandated logs.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining necessary equipment and supplies.
- Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families regarding communication disorders when appropriate.
- Communicates and collaborates with parents and families, administrators, supervisors, teachers, and other staff members.
- Attends weekly check-ins with the Director.
Qualifications:
- Holds a valid New Jersey educational services certificate in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 18A:27.1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11 with a Speech Language Specialist endorsement (N.J.A.C. 6:11-11.9) and other appropriate endorsement(s) in accordance with the requirements of N.J.A.C. 6:11-10.1 et seq.
- Demonstrates the ability to treat and provide strategies for the prevention and remediation of speech-language disorders.
- Has excellent integrity and demonstrates good moral character and initiative.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of speech-language pathology, child growth and development, learning assessment and diagnosis, research related to learning, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
- Demonstrates an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding Child Study Teams, special education assessment, and program requirements.
- Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents/families, and the community.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Demonstrates the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, and communications.
- An eagerness to set ambitious, challenging, and tangible goals, and a relentless drive to achieve them.
- An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and a capacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges.
- Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
