About the team:

The Platform SRE team at Luno owns the full infrastructure stack - from Kubernetes and AWS through to CI/CD, observability, networking, and developer tooling. We work with high autonomy, balancing business initiatives, platform improvements, and the reliability work that keeps a global financial platform running. We build for the future and enable developers to deliver now. We are spread across the world and operate in a remote-first environment, where collaboration and communication is crucial day-to-day.

The role in a nutshell:

As a Staff SRE at Luno, you are providing technical expertise and oversight for reliability and scalability across our cloud estate. Joining a high-impact team, you will help shape the future of our platform while partnering with teams throughout the engineering organisation to scale reliability and accelerate delivery.

You’ll help manage multi-region Kubernetes and AWS at scale within a regulated financial environment - where uptime is critical. Beyond solving complex problems, you’ll define the technical roadmap, prioritize high-impact initiatives, and lead their execution.

Your mission will be:

• Owning and driving large-scale platform initiatives from problem definition through to delivery - setting technical direction, aligning stakeholders, and seeing projects through
• Shaping how the Platform team builds and operates: from architectural standards to how we respond when things go wrong.
• Building and scaling infrastructure and CI/CD processes on the Luno platform by applying and enforcing Infrastructure as Code.
• Apply security first principles when building - ensuring compliance with various security and legal audits that we apply for and encounter in the crypto industry.
• Contributing to the team's long-term roadmap while staying hands-on - this is a role that requires both strategic thinking and the ability to go deep.
• Increasing AI adoption throughout the Platform team and engineering as whole, identifying opportunities to improve how we work and increase efficiency.

• You communicate clearly and directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders - recognizing that written context is just as important as the work itself.
• You’re curious by nature and motivated to keep learning as tools, techniques and the platform landscape evolves.
• You have an active interest in AI tooling and emergent technologies.

The ideal Lunaut will have:

• Deep, hands-on experience in a Site Reliability, Platform, DevOps, or Infrastructure engineering role.
• Strong AWS knowledge, with experience architecting and operating multi-account, multi-region environments.
• Production-grade Kubernetes experience: building, running and scaling clusters with strict uptime requirements.
• Extensive experience with observability and monitoring tooling to support live services.
• Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to scope, design and implement business-lead projects.
• Demonstrable experience in managing large infrastructure projects using Terraform
• Experience leveraging AI tools to increase team productivity - from infrastructure automation, to improving operational workflows.
