The Top of Funnel team is responsible for capturing organic user interest through SEO and optimizing the logged-out web experience to convert curious visitors into Coinbase users. We serve over 5 million pageviews per month across critical logged-out surfaces including Asset Detail Pages, How-to-Buy pages, Converter pages, and marketing landing pages.

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer with deep frontend expertise and strong backend capabilities to lead technical strategy across our logged-out web platform. You will architect and build performant, SEO-optimized web experiences, define the future of our marketing attribution and user tracking, and ensure our Marketing Server infrastructure delivers reliable, scalable SSR at the edge. This role requires someone who can work across the full stack — from React/Next.js frontend to Node.js/Go backend services — while driving technical leadership and mentoring engineers across the team.

As Coinbase expands into the Everything Exchange — spanning equities, derivatives, prediction markets, and DEX assets — our team is building the scalable programmatic systems that generate millions of SEO-optimized pages and the self-serve marketing tools that reduce engineering dependency. You'll be at the center of this effort, shaping the technical strategy that powers how the world discovers Coinbase.

What you'll be doing:

• Drive rapid experimentation by leveraging best practices and tooling to create a repeatable, simple framework for quick logged-out experimentation
• Build and optimize programmatic SEO pages that scale across millions of assets (crypto, equities, derivatives, prediction markets)
• Optimize logged-out web experiences for SEO, web performance, and user conversion
• Architect multi-product logged-out experiences to support Coinbase's asset expansion
• Scale marketing and user tracking to enable marketing teams to effectively manage and optimize campaigns across multiple user segments and channels
• Improve marketing attribution, measurement, and data quality across ad platforms
• Provide technical leadership across the team and work closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps
• Mentor and coach engineers across the team on design techniques, coding standards, and growth engineering best practices
• Identify and drive technical debt reduction and performance improvements across the logged-out platform

What we look for in you:

• Frontend Expertise: Deep experience with React, TypeScript, and modern web frameworks (Next.js or similar)
• Full Stack Capability: Proficiency with backend languages and patterns, GraphQL/API design
• Web Performance: Expert understanding of Core Web Vitals, SSR optimization, caching strategies (CDN, edge), and mobile-first development
• Experimentation Mindset: Track record of running rapid A/B tests and data-driven experimentation; comfortable with hypothesis-driven development
• Impact-Driven: Motivated by outcomes over outputs. Identifies and pursues high-impact opportunities, backed by data
• High Agency: Takes accountability and actively seeks out opportunities to deliver results. Understands how their work drives meaningful impact to the growth of Coinbase
• High Velocity: Preferred mode of operation is fast. Knows how to balance velocity and quality. Invests in tools, systems, and processes to increase velocity
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering
• Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact
• Passionate about building an open financial system that brings the world together

Nice to haves:

• Experience with marketing technology, attribution systems, or ad platform integrations (Google Ads API, Meta CAPI, TikTok Events API)
• Background in Growth engineering (SEO, experimentation, A/B testing frameworks, acquisition funnels)
• Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka
• Familiarity with data pipelines, MongoDB, Snowflake, and Airflow
• Experience with Go or Node.js backend services
• You have experience launching new products from 0 to 1
