About the Role
We are looking for a VP Finance & Operations to lead the strategic and operational backbone of the company – someone who can see around corners, build the systems that enable Block to scale, and hold the organization accountable to its highest ambitions.
You will own Finance, Business Operations, Customer Experience, and People Operations, spanning the full infrastructure that enables Block to perform at its best. You will be deeply embedded in the business, our customers, and our product, surfacing the insights and driving the decisions that shape Block's trajectory. As a core member of the executive team reporting directly to the CEO, you'll partner closely with leaders across the company to set strategy, allocate resources, and ensure we execute with speed and discipline. You will lead a talented cross-functional team and help them to thrive and grow in their roles.
As a company building AI products, we expect every leader to embrace AI and agentic workflows across their functions – you will lead by example, deeply integrating AI into how you operate and empowering your team to do the same.
This is a high-impact role for a builder – someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution, experiments relentlessly, and moves fast.
What you will do:
- Own Block's financial architecture. Lead financial strategy, capital allocation, and planning to ensure the company operates with discipline, clear visibility into performance, and the financial infrastructure to support our next phase of growth.
- Drive strategic and operational rigor across the business. Keep a close pulse on the business and our customers, translating data and market signals into incisive insights that sharpen our strategy and continuously raise the bar on performance.
- Elevate the customer experience. Ensure homeowners and contractors receive consistently excellent, proactive support throughout their journey on the platform – and that CX is a strategic function, not just a reactive one.
- Build the people infrastructure that scales. Oversee People Operations to design the systems, processes, and culture that attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent as Block grows.
- Shape company strategy as a member of the executive team. Partner with the CEO and fellow leaders to set direction, make tradeoffs, and drive execution against Block's most important goals.
What we are looking for:
- 12+ years of leadership experience in strategic finance, business operations, or a related discipline – with a clear track record of building the operational and financial engine behind high-growth companies.
- Incisive executive judgment. You can zoom out to set strategy and zoom in to drive rigorous execution. You're the person in the room who connects financial performance to resourcing decisions to customer outcomes.
- A builder's mentality. You've operated in and are energized by early-stage or high-growth environments where you create structure from ambiguity, stand up new functions, and iterate fast.
- Proven ability to lead and elevate high-performing teams across multiple functions. You empower your teams to do their best work and drive meaningful impact.
- Comfort with both investors and spreadsheets. You're credible in a boardroom and equally willing to roll up your sleeves and get into the details when it matters.
- Conviction that AI shapes how great companies operate. You're already using AI and agentic tools to accelerate your own work, and you're excited to push that further across every function you touch.
