About the role:
Over 50% of Google searches now end without a click. ChatGPT has 2.5 billion daily users. The brands that LLMs learn to recommend early are becoming the default choices. This isn't a future scenario. It's now.
At VML Netherlands, our Discoverability team works at the intersection of traditional search and generative AI. We help enterprise clients end to end: from visibility audits and competitive benchmarking, through priority page optimization and entity architecture, to fully embedded GEO operating models with governance, training, and real-time performance dashboards.
We run these for enterprise clients across FMCG, consumer electronics, healthcare, sports nutrition, and financial services.
We therefore are looking for a senior consultant who can lead the SEO side of this with authority, act as a strategic sparring partner for our clients, and grow into GEO with curiosity and pace.
What you’ll do:
As a senior consultant you will not only be executing SEO; you also will steer clients toward the right strategy, challenge their assumptions when needed, and help them get there.
- Own the client relationship on discoverability. You're the strategic sparring partner for marketing leads and digital directors. You advise, align, and drive decisions.
- Lead end-to-end SEO and GEO strategies for enterprise clients: from audit and roadmap through implementation, content optimization, technical fixes, and ongoing performance management.
- Drive measurable results. You don't stop at the recommendation. You own the path from insight to implementation to impact, whether that's restructuring priority pages, improving entity coverage, or building a GEO dashboard.
- Turn data into direction. GA4, GSC, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog are your daily tools. But the value is in the recommendation, not the report.
- Coach and develop medior and junior specialists. On craft, on client skills, on quality standards.
- Shape our GEO proposition. This discipline is young. You'll help define how we audit, optimize, and measure brand visibility in AI search.
- Collaborate internationally across VML's 55+ market network.
Who you are:
- A senior consultant, not just a specialist. You've led complex SEO engagements and advised stakeholders at director level. You understand technical SEO, content strategy, and how both connect to commercial outcomes.
- Someone clients trust to steer them. You communicate with confidence, ground your advice in evidence, and don't shy away from a difficult recommendation.
- Curious about what comes next. GEO is new. You're energized by that. You read, experiment, and form your own opinions on how AI is reshaping discoverability.
- A multiplier. You make the people around you better at their work, not just better at following yours.
What you’ll need:
- Fluent in English (Dutch is highly desirable)
- 5–7+ years of hands-on SEO experience (technical and strategic) on complex multi-market websites
- Proven consultancy skills. You've advised clients at senior level and steered strategic direction, not just delivered reports
- Tooling fluency with Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Semrush, GSC, GA4
- Mentoring experience. You've helped others grow, formally or informally
- GEO experience is a plus, not a prerequisite. Deeply curious and ready to pioneer counts
- Currently residing in The Netherlands
