Job Title: Senior Software Software Engineer – P3 (Full Stack)

Role Overview.

As a P3 Full Stack Software Engineer, you are a solid, dependable individual contributor who can independently deliver well-scoped features across the frontend and backend. You are expected to apply sound engineering judgment, contribute to design discussions, and support the team through reliable execution—while still operating with guidance on larger technical and architectural decisions.

This role is ideal for engineers with 6+ years of experience who are strong executors, comfortable working in complex codebases, and looking to deepen ownership before moving into senior-level responsibilities.

As a Software Engineer – P3, you will:

• Independently design and implement well-defined features across the full stack with minimal day-to-day guidance.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX designers, QA, and fellow engineers to translate requirements into working software.
• Develop and maintain frontend features using React or Angular, focusing on usability and performance.
• Contribute to backend services using Java, Kotlin, or .NET (expertise in one is sufficient; .NET is not mandatory).
• Build and consume RESTful APIs and integrate with internal systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code aligned with Toast engineering standards.
• Participate actively in code reviews—both receiving and providing constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot production and non-production issues within owned areas and contribute to root-cause analysis.
• Use Gradle or Maven, Git, and standard development workflows effectively.
• Apply AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Devin) to improve development speed and quality.
• Support team delivery during critical phases when needed, including production issues and urgent fixes.

P3 Competency Expectations at Toast:

• Consistently delivers on commitments with predictable cycle time for scoped work.
• Demonstrates ownership of components or features but does not yet own large systems end-to-end.
• Understands and follows established architectural patterns and engineering best practices.
• Proactively communicates progress, risks, and dependencies.
• Seeks feedback and continuously improves technical depth and execution quality.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in software or full-stack development.
• Strong hands-on experience with frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Solid backend development experience in Java, Kotlin, or .NET.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency with Git and modern branching workflows.
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including basic schema design and querying.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with Gradle or Maven for build and dependency management.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to code quality.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-Have Ingredients:

• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Devin).
• Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Experience working in a large-scale SaaS or product engineering environment.
