Job Summary

Do you want to make a difference at a company that is transforming mobility?

Are you an experienced Technical Project or Program Manager with a strong engineering background and a passion for solving complex technical problems? Do you enjoy digging into challenging issues, working with data to understand root causes, and aligning teams to drive solutions?

May Mobility is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Technical Project Manager (TPM) to lead cross-functional teams in solving some of the most challenging problems in autonomous vehicle deployment and operations.

In this role, you will work closely with engineering, autonomy, product, operations, and customer teams to manage the technical lifecycle of autonomous vehicle deployments. This includes clarifying ambiguous requirements, prioritizing competing technical tasks, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring detailed and reliable program execution.

Technical Project Managers at May Mobility play a critical role in enabling successful site launches and ongoing operational performance. The role focuses on software deployment and operational performance of autonomy systems, rather than hardware deployment.

This role requires a TPM who takes strong ownership of complex technical and operational challenges and works hands-on with engineering and operations teams to drive problems to resolution.

You will help bridge autonomy software development with real-world deployment, ensuring that new capabilities transition into safe, reliable, and scalable service across May Mobility’s operational sites.

This position involves managing the technical deployment of new sites as well as expanding and improving existing operational sites. Responsibilities include analyzing vehicle and software performance metrics, identifying operational issues, and coordinating with autonomy teams to ensure continuous improvement and successful customer outcomes.

This is a hybrid role based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with occasional travel to operational sites.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with autonomy, engineering, product, operations, and business teams to scope, plan, and execute technical deployments of new and existing autonomy sites.
  • Lead technical program management activities related to autonomy software deployment, ensuring high-quality and on-time site launches.
  • Analyze site performance data and operational metrics to identify issues, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive data-informed decision making by identifying the metrics, analyses, and operational insights needed to assess performance, diagnose issues, and prioritize actions.
  • Use data, metrics, and operational insights to identify performance trends, diagnose issues, and guide engineering teams toward impactful solutions.
  • Coordinate issue tracking and resolution between site operations and autonomy engineering teams.
  • Understand software system architecture at a high level and facilitate technical discussions to clarify priorities and drive decisions.
  • Proactively identify risks, remove blockers, and maintain execution momentum across teams with competing priorities.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between engineering teams, operational sites, and external partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure alignment on technical goals and deliverables.
  • Plan and coordinate technical demonstrations and milestone reviews with partners and stakeholders.
  • Consolidate input from engineering, safety, legal, and business teams to produce project documentation including program plans, schedules, statements of work, and technical deliverables.
  • Provide clear and regular program status updates, including progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across internal teams and external partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and operational efficiency within the technical program lifecycle.

Skills and Abilities

Success in this role typically requires the following competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage complex technical programs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills across diverse audiences.
  • Ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive alignment and decisions.
  • Strong ownership mindset and ability to independently drive initiatives to completion.
  • Ability to identify gaps in processes or execution and propose scalable improvements.
  • Collaborative leadership style that builds trust and alignment across teams.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Integrity and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • Ability to drive programs toward measurable outcomes through technical judgment, data-driven decision making, and strong ownership — not just task tracking or status coordination.
  • Technical understanding of autonomy development, operational performance data, and how software behavior translates into real-world site outcomes.
  • Passion for autonomous vehicles and their impact on the future of transportation.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or a highly technical field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in engineering or another highly technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of technical project or program management experience, including project planning, stakeholder management, risk mitigation, and program execution.
  • Experience working in fast-paced engineering environments such as R&D, prototype development, or startup environments.
  • Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements and translate them into structured execution plans.
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, root causes, and solutions clearly and concisely using data-driven insights.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, system integration, testing, and validation processes.
  • Ability to effectively bridge technical and operational needs while maintaining alignment with broader program objectives.
  • Comfortable working in environments with evolving processes and ambiguous technical challenges.
  • High level of initiative and proactivity, including the ability to take on challenges beyond core responsibilities when needed to drive program success.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of the autonomous vehicle industry.
  • 7+ years of technical program or project management experience.
  • Startup or high-growth technology company experience.
  • Experience using Google Workspace and collaborative documentation tools.

Experience in one or more of the following environments is highly valued:

  • Robotics, autonomous systems, or other advanced mobility technologies
  • Complex software-hardware systems (e.g., robotics, aerospace, automotive, embedded systems)
  • Operational deployment environments where software systems interact with real-world operations
  • Early-stage or high-growth startup environments where processes and systems are still evolving

Physical Requirements

Standard office working conditions including but not limited to:

  • Prolonged sitting
  • Prolonged standing
  • Prolonged computer use
  • Driving a May Mobility vehicle in autonomous and manual modes

Travel Requirement: Moderate (11–25%)
