About the role: What's in the Box

The Conversions Tech area enables meal brands to achieve ambitious growth targets through a seamless and high-performing conversion funnel. As a component of the Growth Alliance, this project drives growth for the HelloFresh group by powering marketing with advanced MarTech capabilities and product innovation. The focus is directed toward (re)acquisition, conversion optimization, and data-driven growth strategies.

In the capacity of a Staff Data Scientist within Conversions, the service provider contributes to shaping the intelligence that drives customized user journeys across conversion funnels. This involves directing complex feature engineering and optimization efforts, designing the data foundations and analytical approaches that power the decisioning platform for personalized experiences.

These services enable an automated engine to determine the optimal journey for a specific user at the appropriate time, based on intent, channel, and campaign context. Execution occurs at a strategic level, influencing how personalization is designed, evaluated, and scaled across various workstreams. This project carries direct accountability for advancing the data strategy and improving the user experience for the HelloFresh group across global markets.

What you’ll do: The Recipe

Decisioning, Modeling & Strategy

• Direct and evolve the data and modeling strategy behind customized journeys and funnel decisioning.
• Direct complex feature engineering initiatives that improve decision quality, robustness, and scalability.
• Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning approaches for large-scale personalization and routing decisions.
• Define standards for model validation, monitoring, and experimentation to ensure long-term reliability and impact.

Technical Coordination & Strategy

• Act as a strategic technical resource for Product, Engineering, and Marketing, shaping how decisioning capabilities are embedded into the conversion funnels and experiences.
• Drive alignment across technical workstreams on how personalization is measured, iterated, and scaled.
• Provide technical frameworks for roadmap and prioritization decisions by framing problems in terms of data, impact, and trade-offs.
• Contribute technical assessments to "build vs. buy" decisions related to data science tooling, platforms, and external solutions.

Platform & Enablement

• Define and evolve shared decisioning frameworks and data products used across Conversions and adjacent domains.
• Ensure analytical solutions are production-ready, observable, and efficient to iterate on.
• Provide high-level technical guidance to other data scientists, setting a high bar for analytical rigor and project impact.

AI & Automation

• Coordinate with engineering teams to bring these capabilities safely into production environments.
• Explore how AI and automation can improve decisioning quality, experimentation velocity, and iteration speed.

What you’ll bring: The Ingredients

• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with a Master's degree, or a minimum of 5 years of professional experience with a Ph.D. degree, in a quantitative field.
• Demonstrated expertise in data science, with a strong emphasis on personalization and marketing communications.
• Deep understanding of machine learning principles and techniques relevant to send personalization and content creation including regression, classification, recommendation systems, clustering, natural language processing, and multi-armed / contextual bandit algorithms.
• Proven ability to solve complex optimization problems that involve a large number of dimensions and optimization targets.
• Proven ability to design and interpret A/B tests and quasi-experiments with synthetic controls to validate hypotheses related to the personalized communication strategy stream.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration capabilities.
• Experience with customer behavior analysis, segmentation, and identifying high-value actions to drive customer lifetime value.
• Experience in leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) models (e.g., LLMs) for content generation, including prompt engineering, model evaluation, and fine-tuning to create engaging and personalized customer communications.
