Software Engineer (Indexer Focus) - Shielded

Input Output is building Midnight, a regulatory-friendly, data-protection blockchain that safeguards sensitive commercial and personal data. The role focuses on the Midnight Indexer — a Rust service that streams blockchain data to wallets and end-user applications through a high-performance GraphQL API.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate Indexer components in Rust: chain indexer, wallet indexer, SPO indexer, and the GraphQL API.
• Build and maintain the data pipeline that fetches blocks/transactions from the Midnight node via subxt, handling finalised-block tracking, backfilling, and continuous indexing.
• Design efficient schemas and queries for PostgreSQL (cloud) and SQLite (standalone) and keep latency and throughput healthy.
• Evolve the GraphQL API (queries, mutations, real-time subscriptions over WebSockets) with correct handling of shielded data and secure wallet sessions.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; prioritise reliability and correctness.
• Own operational quality: observability, containerised deployment (Docker), and incident response.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions; collaborate closely with node, ledger, wallet, and security teams.

Requirements:

• Strong, idiomatic Rust experience — including async/await (tokio) and concurrency.
• Backend / data-systems experience building and operating high-performance services or data pipelines.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL and/or SQLite: schema design, query optimisation, performance reasoning.
• API design experience; GraphQL knowledge is a plus.
• Solid computer-science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and concurrency; engineering discipline with testing and clear technical communication.
• At least 3 years of software development experience, including at least 2 years using Rust; experience with remote collaboration and scale-ups.

Nice to have:

• Substrate / Polkadot ecosystem experience (especially subxt, pallets, runtime development).
• Familiarity with blockchain core concepts: consensus, cryptography, transaction/state models.
• Applied cryptography or zero-knowledge interest/experience.
• WASM and Cardano / partner-chain context.
