Roblox is seeking an experienced and passionate Engineering Manager to manage a team of talented senior engineers building cutting edge Avatar technology that will propel the user experience and quality of characters in games to the next level. The team's responsibilities are to support player growth through a highly customizable range of avatars from classic Roblox blocky to high fidelity virtual humans. In this role, you would be required to find a structured way to take ambitious projects to production through a balanced approach between research and development. In this important role, it is essential to be involved with product decisions and work with product managers to create actionable roadmaps. As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for establishing a collaborative work environment that fosters a high degree of craftsmanship and personal growth. You should be able to design, communicate and implement reliable, scalable and extensible software applications across a varied stack.

You are:

• A leader with a proven track record of strong people management skills and an ability to hire and grow a talented team of engineers
• Experienced, with  5+ years in an engineering role and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field
• An expert in 3D graphics, animation techniques, C++ and performance optimization
• Experienced with state-of-the-art Avatar or Character animation systems
• Able to contribute to and drive systems architecture design discussions
• Able to contribute to and drive implementations across multiple platforms (PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Console)
• Adept at using and monitoring data and metrics to drive and deliver higher quality products
• Excited about automated tests, documentation and rigorous test plans and building processes to ensure we are continuously improving.
• Effective at driving projects and comfortable getting your hands dirty when needed
• Organized and analytical with the ability to track numerous separate threads to their appropriate resolution

You will:

• Lead application engineering teams by coordinating with product managers, tech leads, and individual contributors
• Own and deliver complex technical projects from the planning stage through execution
• Provide guidance on architecture and design, and define processes for launching products and features
• Define, develop, and implement engineering best practices and strategies
• Perform code reviews, provide architectural direction and performance guidance to engineers
• Provide mentoring to both junior and senior engineers
• Develop and track key metrics for product quality and team performance, drive their improvement over time, and communicate their status

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$343,340—$397,460 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
